Clio Review 2026
Industry-standard legal practice management with the deepest integration ecosystem
ReviewLake Score
Best for: Firms of any size that want the deepest integration ecosystem and are willing to invest in legal operations as a strategic function
Our quick verdict
Buy it if
You want the deepest integration ecosystem and feature set in legal practice management, you're comfortable requesting quotes for anything above the entry tier, and you're ready to treat legal operations as a real strategic investment.
Think twice if
You're cost-sensitive - the $49 entry price doesn't reflect what most firms actually pay once add-ons (Duo, Grow, Draft, payment processing) stack up, and Clio currently holds an F rating with the BBB over unanswered billing complaints.
Biggest strength: Largest integration ecosystem in legal tech, with 250+ connected apps
Biggest weakness: Full value often requires paid add-ons like the Grow module, pushing effective cost above the advertised starting tier

ReviewLake Score breakdown
The deepest feature set and integration ecosystem in the category, but pricing opacity above the entry tier and a BBB F rating over billing complaints pull down its value and support scores.
Pricing
Pricing model
Entry tier published, rest quote-onlyOnly the entry-level Starter tier ($49/user/month) is publicly published on Clio's own pricing page; the Core, Signature, and Elite tiers above it require a custom quote. Third-party trackers still cite older tier names (EasyStart/Essentials/Advanced/Complete) at $49-159/user/month, which may reflect a prior pricing structure that predates a 2026 tier rename
Four current tier names: Starter, Core, Signature, Elite. Only Starter's $49/user/month price is public. Add-ons stack on top - Clio Grow (bundled in Elite, separately priced on Core/Signature), Clio Draft document automation, Clio Payments processing fees, and now Grow AI's $25-per-converted-lead model. Get a written quote for anything above Starter before comparing total cost.

Pricing tiers have changed, and most of them are no longer public
Clio's own pricing page currently uses four tier names - Starter, Core, Signature, Elite - a change from the EasyStart/Essentials/Advanced/Complete naming several third-party trackers (TrustRadius, Software Advice) still show. Only Starter's price ($49/user/month) is published; Core, Signature, and Elite all sit behind a "Get pricing" call to sales. Add-ons stack on top: Clio Grow (client intake/CRM) is bundled into Elite or sold separately for Core/Signature; Clio Draft (document automation, formerly Lawyaw) and Clio for Personal Injury are also separately priced; and Clio Payments charges processing fees on top of the subscription. Treat any specific dollar figure for Core/Signature/Elite you find on a third-party site as potentially outdated rather than current.
Clio Duo and Grow AI
Clio Duo launched October 7, 2024 as a chat-style AI assistant inside Clio Manage - natural-language Q&A over matter data, document summarization, task/bill/calendar creation, and an audit log of its own actions. Clio's own press releases do not disclose Duo's price; independent reviewer Lawyerist reports it as a $39/user/month add-on, which we could not confirm on Clio's own site - treat that figure as a third-party estimate. Separately, "Grow AI" launched August 20, 2026: 24/7 AI phone/email/chat intake agents priced per converted lead ($25/conversion, no charge if no conversion), a genuinely different pricing model than per-seat SaaS.
Integration ecosystem
This is a real strength, though Clio's own site is inconsistent about the exact count - the integrations page cites "200+," "250+," and "300+" in different places. Treat it as a range, not a single audited number. Reviewers do praise the breadth (Gmail, Outlook, Zoom, QuickBooks Online, Xero, and hundreds more), but also report real friction with specific integrations - Outlook add-in crashes, slow Gmail sync, and QuickBooks Online/Xero sync problems recur across G2 and Capterra reviews.
Trust accounting & mobile app
Clio's built-in IOLTA-compliant trust accounting with three-way reconciliation is genuinely deep and confirmed via Clio's own help-center documentation and third-party legal-bookkeeping guides - a real differentiator versus lighter competitors. Mobile app quality is bifurcated by platform: the iOS app sits at 4.8/5 with roughly 8,900 ratings (strong, high-volume), while the Android app sits at only 4.1-4.2/5 with roughly 700-740 ratings - noticeably weaker and less-reviewed. A February 2025 App Store review specifically paired price increases with "close to useless" mobile functionality beyond basic calendar viewing, worth knowing if mobile matters to your workflow.
Feature availability matrix

|---|---|---|
| Trust accounting / three-way reconciliation | Yes | Confirmed via Clio's own help-center documentation and independent legal-bookkeeping guides. |
| Full public pricing across all tiers | Unconfirmed | Only the Starter tier ($49/user/month) is published; Core, Signature, and Elite all require a sales quote. |
| Clio Duo AI pricing disclosed by Clio | Unconfirmed | Clio's own press releases don't state a price; a third-party reviewer (Lawyerist) reports $39/user/month, unconfirmed on clio.com. |
| "200-300+ integrations" as a single audited figure | Partial | Clio's own site states 200+, 250+, and 300+ in different places - a real range, not one verified number. |

Pros & Cons
What we like
- Largest integration ecosystem in legal tech, with 250+ connected apps
- Deep analytics and AI features (Clio Duo) for firms focused on data-driven growth
- Scales from solo practitioners to large firms without needing to switch platforms later
What to watch
- Full value often requires paid add-ons like the Grow module, pushing effective cost above the advertised starting tier
- Considered one of the more expensive options in practice once add-ons are included
- Breadth of features means a longer learning curve than simpler competitors
Who is Clio for?
Ideal for
- Firms of any size wanting the broadest integration ecosystem in legal tech
- Firms ready to invest in AI-assisted billing and intake as it rolls out
- US-based practices comfortable requesting quotes for anything past the entry tier
Not ideal for
- Very cost-sensitive solo/small firms - add-on costs push real spend well past the $49 entry price
- Firms outside the US/Canada - reviewers flag the product as very US-centric
- Firms wary of billing/refund friction, given BBB complaints about held Clio Payments funds
Clio is the platform most firms eventually hear about, and for good reason - its integration ecosystem and analytics depth are the deepest in legal practice management. That breadth comes with a real cost: getting the full value often means layering on paid add-ons beyond the base subscription, and the learning curve reflects genuine depth rather than being needlessly complex. For a firm ready to treat legal operations as a real strategic function rather than an afterthought, it’s a strong long-term platform to build on.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Clio cost?
Clio's entry-level Starter plan is publicly listed at $49/user/month. Pricing for the Core, Signature, and Elite tiers above it is not published as of August 2026 - firms must request a quote. Third-party trackers cite older tier names/prices in the $79-$159/user/month range, but these may not reflect Clio's current, renamed tier structure.
Does Clio charge extra for its AI features?
Clio's own press releases for Clio Duo don't disclose a price, but independent reviewer Lawyerist lists it as a $39/user/month add-on. Clio's newer Grow AI intake agents use a pay-per-result model instead: $25 per converted lead, with no charge for unconverted leads.
How many apps does Clio integrate with?
Clio markets "250+ integrations," though its own site variously states 200+, 250+, and 300+ in different places - treat this as a vendor-stated range, not a single audited figure.
What do independent review sites and the BBB say about Clio?
Strong and high-volume on review sites: 4.7/5 on Capterra (1,743 reviews) and Software Advice, 4.6/5 on G2 (~1,000+ reviews), but only 4.3-4.5/5 on Trustpilot (~275 reviews) and an F rating with the Better Business Bureau tied to unanswered complaints, including allegations about held Clio Payments funds.
Is Clio good for solo and small firms?
It's well-reviewed for ease of use, but multiple reviewers say the pricing/add-on structure makes full functionality "cost prohibitive" for smaller practices, since meaningful value (AI billing, custom roles, intake AI) sits behind higher, non-public-priced tiers.
Who owns Clio?
Clio (legal name Themis Solutions Inc.) is privately held and venture-backed, most recently raising a $500M Series G at a $5B valuation in November 2025 alongside its $1B acquisition of legal-research company vLex.
Has Clio had any data breaches or major security incidents?
No evidence of a breach of Clio's own systems was found in our research. The one adjacent security story is Clio removing a third-party app-directory partner over security concerns in 2021 - not an incident affecting Clio's core platform.
How we scored this
This score is based on our own independent research across five weighted dimensions - ease of use, features & depth, value for money, customer support, and small-business fit - not vendor-reported or user-submitted data. Feature claims are sourced from Clio's own product pages, press releases, and independent review coverage, not our own hands-on testing. Last reviewed 2026-08-01.
