Native email integration
Confirmed via CARET's own support documentation, not just marketing copy: CARET Legal has a real email module with two-way sync to Gmail/Google Workspace, Office 365/Exchange, or generic IMAP. Emails auto-file to the matching matter, an auto-timer starts on email composition for billable capture, and an Outlook plugin exists as an alternative workflow. That said, independent reviewers on G2, Capterra, and TrustRadius repeatedly cite sync reliability problems - incomplete syncing, calendar/contact issues, and friction after Microsoft deprecated some legacy add-ins. The depth of the design is real; the day-to-day reliability is contested.
Trust & business accounting
This is CARET Legal's strongest, most independently-corroborated feature area. It includes checks restricted to trust (not operating) accounts, retainer replenishment invoicing, automatic low-balance alerts, and dedicated three-way reconciliation reporting, plus nine native financial reports. A March 2026 release rebuilt the general ledger with native trust/operating accounting, locked accounting periods, and role-based financial permissions. Lawyerist's independent review calls this "advanced trust accounting capabilities." AI features
CARET Legal includes AI-generated document summaries (Enterprise Plus tier and above) and an "Analytics AI" feature for firm performance trends, added in a March 2026 seasonal release. A separate "Quick Summary" AI feature was announced via press release. These are real, shipped, vendor-described features - we found no independent third-party depth-testing of AI accuracy, so treat effectiveness claims as the vendor's own until you've tried it on your own documents.
